How to BFA Well

There’s a lot to discover at BFA @ The Beach.

More than 180 beers from Singapore and around the world. Great food. Live music and DJs. Brewers to meet, flavours to discover, sunsets to catch – and three days of good times at Palawan Green.

The temptation, naturally, is to try to fit everything in.

Don’t.

Because perhaps the best way to experience BFA isn’t to see how much you can squeeze into one evening. It’s to give yourself enough time to actually enjoy what’s here. Try something unfamiliar. Ask what you’re drinking. Compare notes with the person next to you. Get something to eat. Drink some water. Catch a band. Sit down for a while. Watch the sun disappear. Then wander off and discover something else. There’s plenty to experience. There’s no need to rush it. That, really, is what we mean when we say: BFA Well.

More Discovery. Less Rush.

With more than 180 beers to explore at BFA @ The Beach, the number can sound almost like a challenge. It isn’t.

Beer discovery has always been at the heart of BFA, and discovery is very different from consumption for consumption’s sake. There’s little point racing through a long list if, by the end of it, you can’t remember what you particularly liked – or why.

Instead, we recommend starting with what interests you. Perhaps it’s a beer from a country whose brewing scene you know little about. Perhaps it’s something brewed right here in Singapore. Maybe it’s a style you normally wouldn’t order, an ingredient that sounds completely improbable, or simply a recommendation from the brewer standing on the other side of the counter.

Taste it. Think about it. Talk about it.

One of the pleasures of beer is just how differently people can experience the same glass. What one person finds citrusy, another might describe as tropical. One person gravitates towards the bitterness; someone else notices the malt.

Nobody necessarily has to be wrong. That conversation is part of the fun. And if you find something you really like? Have another. There’s no rule at a beer festival saying every beer has to be new.

Equally, taking a break from alcohol doesn’t mean taking a break from BFA. Choose a no/lo option such as Heineken 0.0, our Official Non-Alcoholic Beer. Get something to eat. Catch the music. Find your friends. Then decide what you feel like discovering next. The objective isn’t maximum consumption. It’s maximum discovery.

Water Belongs in the Rhythm Too

There’s another drink worth discovering early in the day: water.

Hydration shouldn’t be something saved for the end of the night when somebody suddenly remembers it might be a good idea. Make it part of your BFA rhythm from the beginning. Have a beer. Have some water. Get something to eat. Explore. Repeat – at whatever pace works for you.

That’s why Montana Alps, Official Hydration Partner of BFA @ The Beach, is helping us make hydration part of the experience from first pour to final toast. Sourced from pristine Northern Europe and naturally filtered through ancient volcanic rock and mineral-rich layers, Montana Alps Nature Alkaline Mineral Water is naturally balanced at pH 8.0+, contains 0 nitrates and 0 nitrites, is naturally low in sodium and contains minerals including calcium and magnesium.

Crisp, clean and bottled at source, it’s an easy way to keep water in the mix while you explore.

For guests joining us at Sunset Social, Montana Alps is served complimentary. The simple rule? Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to remember the water.

The Festival Is Happening Between the Pours Too

Beer may be in our name, but it isn’t the whole festival.

Food is part of the discovery too, particularly when you start putting the two together. Something hoppy can behave very differently beside something spicy. Malt sweetness can suddenly make sense against something smoky or rich. Acidity can wake up an entirely different part of a dish. You don’t need to know the technical vocabulary to enjoy any of this. Put things together and decide for yourself. More importantly, eating gives you a very good reason to stop moving. Find somewhere to sit. Catch up with your friends. Listen to whatever is happening on stage without necessarily standing in front of it. Watch the crowd go by.

Then, at some point, look west. There comes a moment at Palawan Green when the heat begins to soften, the light changes and the sky starts turning gold. We moved BFA to the beach for a reason. Don’t spend sunset staring at a beer menu. Stay where you are for a while.

BFA isn’t a race from booth to booth. It’s an afternoon, an evening – or perhaps an entire weekend – at the beach.

Come early. Take your time. Stay for sunset. And if you’re still around later, moon gaze. Find a star.

The festival is happening between the pours too.

Sometimes the Best Thing to Do Is Nothing

Festivals are built around energy. But enjoying that energy doesn’t mean you have to be in the middle of it continuously. Sometimes you need five minutes.

That’s what The Recovery Spot is for – a BFA hideaway designed for anyone who wants somewhere to chill, refresh and recharge before deciding what happens next. Maybe you’re ready to head back into the festival. Maybe there’s a DJ or band you want to catch later. Maybe you’re waiting for friends. Or perhaps you’re beginning to think you’ve had a pretty good evening and it might be time to call it a night. There’s no wrong answer.

While you’re there, discover Sanpellegrino Italian Sparkling Drinks, another of our Wellness Wave Partners. Distinct from mineral water, these refreshing sparkling fruit drinks offer another flavour direction, with Sanpellegrino Melograno & Arancia and Sanpellegrino Clementina available to enjoy. Take five. Find your space. Refresh. Then decide where the night takes you next.

Good Times Work Better Together

There’s another part of doing BFA well that doesn’t require a booth, programme or festival map. Look after your crew. If you came together, check in on one another as the evening goes along. Someone needs water? Get water.

Nobody can remember the last time you ate? Probably a good moment for a food stop. Someone wants to sit down? Sit down.

And if someone has clearly had enough, help them call it a night.

For all the beers, food, music and entertainment we put into BFA, the memories people take home from festivals are usually about something else: who they were with, what they discovered together, who they met and those unexpected moments that somehow become the stories everyone is still talking about afterwards. Your crew is part of the experience. Be a good one.

And When It’s Time, Zig Home

Eventually, even a very good day at the beach has to end. When yours does, make the last decision of the evening a good one too. If you’ve been drinking, don’t drive. Leave the driving to Zig by ComfortDelGro, Official Ride Partner of BFA @ The Beach.

Singapore’s trusted mobility brand is about giving you the freedom to choose how you move, with reliable rides and greater peace of mind along the way. So enjoy the discoveries, the food, the music and the good times – and when you’ve had a drink, make the responsible choice and Zig home.

New to Zig? Sign up and enjoy up to $8 off your first month of rides*: $5 off your first ride upon registration, plus an additional $3 off when you complete three rides in the same month.

Life moves better with choice.

Time to Zig.

The Best BFA? The One You Remember.

There will always be another beer you didn’t manage to try. Another food stall you meant to visit. Another set you could have caught, another conversation you could have had. That’s fine. BFA @ The Beach isn’t something to complete. It’s something to experience. Come curious. Come open-minded. Try something you haven’t tried before. Talk to the people who made what’s in your glass. Eat something good. Find your friends. Make some new ones. Catch the music. Watch the sun go down. Take five when you need to. And when you’ve had a great day, know when to call it one. If there’s a formula for doing BFA well, perhaps it’s simply this:

  • HYDRATE. Water belongs in the rhythm, not just at the end of it.
  • PACE. There’s plenty to discover. Give yourself the time to actually discover it.
  • RESET. Eat. Sit. Talk. Look around. The festival is happening between the pours too.
  • REFRESH. Step away from the action when you need to. Take five, recharge, then decide what comes next.
  • RIDE. When the night is done, leave the driving to someone else and get yourself – and your crew – home safely.

HYDRATE. PACE. RESET. REFRESH. RIDE.

Discover more. Rush less. Stay curious. Look after your crew. Get home well.

That’s How to BFA Well.
